Stationery: A Timeless Memento

Revisit the past

Actually you are stuck in a time warp.  You have never left the past.  I must sound like a crazed scientist.  Unfortunately, I don’t have a break through theory on time travel or a car that runs on plutonium.  We will leave that fantasy for the movies.  Revisiting the past simply means turning off your computer, smart phone or tablet.  It’s a drastic measure that requires your patience and understanding as you endeavor to write eloquent prose that will turn the one you favor into mush.  Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  So what word rhymes with love?

It’s none of Your Business or Is It?

Most businesses rely on three important factors: word of mouth, technology and marketing.  In the business world nothing is quite what it seems.  What works today doesn’t necessarily mean it will work tomorrow.  Your small business or fortune 500 company needs the assurance and piece of mind of a proven method.  Stationery is a practical and useful tool, one that works to bring your clients in touch with what you are trying to do.  The differences are straightforward.

Stationery vs. Email

Personal                                                                             Impersonal

Practical                                                                             Impractical

Reliable                                                                              Unreliable

The winner: Stationery!

I See Dead Pixels

Technology is constantly changing.  It is unpredictable.  This means that most of your beloved gadgets and gizmos are only good for eight months after purchase.  What a lousy deal, right? Well, it’s part of the wonderful world of making a profit.  If things were meant to last then powerhouse companies like Microsoft and Apple would be out of business.  Let’s be frank, most tablets and smart phones used by the average tech eccentric will seek their demise at the given time frame above.  Congratulations, you just purchased the most expensive paperweight on the face of the earth.

It’s alive! It’s alive! It’s alive!

Dr. Frankenstein may have been out of his mind, but he was on to something.  I don’t mean raising the dead – that can get messy – no, I mean turning something out of nothing.  We create with the combination of our words meaning and emotion that may break or build relationships.  Texting and email only define the brief moments of our lives.  Turn the special moments in your life into keepsakes that can be treasured forever.

You Have a Code to Uphold

This is a code all swashbucklers and gentlemen live by, a code defended by the use of a pen rather than a sword.  This is not a post to convince you that technology is, well, bad.  This is a post to remind you that stationery has a place in your life regardless of how many gadgets are attached to your hip.  That place is determined, believe it or not, when you choose to write something down – a note, a message or letter that is well written and thought out.

It is not like a trip to the past or being stuck in a vicious circle of repeating the same events in time. Time would be much less worthwhile if we were a prisoner to such folly like in our most feared sci-fi movies. As we all know life is much more unpredictable, mercurial, full of some of the same treasured moments, people, sights, smells and experiences. We enjoy our golden moments to ourselves, listening to our favorite songs, reading our favorite authors, watching the best of our favorite television, film and live performances. It is all of those people, experiences, times and places that make up the fabric of our lives.

Chanel, Dolce & Gabana, Givenchy, Vuitton, Lauren, Verasce, Mc Queen Marc Jacobs are a few of the names that come to mind. You know like a penny for your thoughts or a dime if you tell me that you love what I’m wearing. We are seeing what’s old become new and what’s new become old again. It’s funny. Classic fashions are timeles and never go out of style like a great message in a song or an original Personalized Stationery or Card. They say fashion is just the reworking the same basic ideas in tried and true styles? Many popular styles from 2012 -13 have been reinspired by what was fashionable during the 20s, 50s, 60s and 70s. Spring looks are swinging 60s, “rebelliously rockabilly” 50s, and greatly influenced by art deco styles of the 20s.

I think a few of the comments in this blog are somewhat exaggerated. I don’t really see tablets or other new gadgets becoming totally useless in less than a year, for example. Heck, a friend of mine still uses an older-generation iPod from like 2006 and has no problems with it!

That said, the greater point is that stationery is not obsolete and definitely still has a place in daily life, and that’s one I can agree with. After all, would I be posting on the blog of a stationery company if I didn’t? But people have been predicting the death of print media and a paperless society for decades now, and it just isn’t happening. If anything, paper communication is more prominent than ever. And since technology, as wonderful as it is, isn’t perfect, sometimes has failure, and is often easily damaged or broken, personalized stationery products remain a viable and safe way to communicate or to complete vital tasks in our daily lives. So yeah, stationery is here to stay!

I’m sorry, did you just say email was impractical? There’s plenty of good arguments to make that personalized stationery is still relevant and useful without resorting to something blatantly untrue like that.

I do believe that there are advantages to personalized cards and notepads that their technological equivalents do not possess. For example, a personalized card seems much more thoughtful, personal, and meaningful than some cheap e-card that didn’t even require leaving your computer to send. Notepads can be used in places where phones and other mobile devices can’t, and you don’t need to remember to carry a charger with you so you can read your shopping list at the grocery store. There’s no way that print is dead, and personalized stationery products are definitely here to stay as far as I’m concerned.
