Summer Appetizers

Throughout the summer we have backyard parties at our house. I’ve learned that the one thing you can never have enough of is napkins. I’m actually going to a party this weekend where each guest is required to bring food – not just a little side dish but a true main course. The idea is to make it a real Feast (yes, the capital F is on purpose). Naturally there will be way too much food for anyone to finish, but that’s sort of the idea.
I’m not sure what food I’m bringing as my contribution to the Feast yet, but I do know that I’m bringing some personalized napkins to commemorate the occasion. The idea for this party was born out of a discussion between some friends at another friend’s wedding a couple months back, and we decided to have an annual feast, not to celebrate anything in particular but just for the sake of having a true feast. So since this will be the first one, I decided to get some personalized napkins that say “Feast 2012″ in big, bold letters to memorialize the party. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and I’m probably not going to be hungry at all the next day.

There’s a lot of talk about personalized napkins here lately. But then I’m using a lot of personalized napkins with all the barbecues and parties I’ve been having lately, so it works out pretty well. There are so many cool styles to choose from that I can always find a new one appropriate for just about any occasion.

I love how this blog sounds so ho-hum about parties, starting off with “Another day, another party.” Do people really have so much time and extra money that they’re throwing parties all the time?
Anyway, it’s true that after one or two parties you need to change things up. Getting different styles of personalized napkins for different occasions helps with that. So does mixing up the menu, as the blog mentions. Unfortunately I’m not a very good cook, so what I usually do is have pot luck-style things when I host an event. That way some of the burden is off of me to provide all the food. I find it helps make the events more enjoyable.
