Your Daily Check List: Wedding Invitations

Passage

Valentine’s Day is next month and we admit that this may have something to do with the inspiration of this post.  We are fools for romance.  It’s the price we pay for working in this industry.  Now, press pause.  Your brain needs the rest from watching all those sappy love films.  Get off the couch and place the carton of ice cream back inside the refrigerator.  Each year the number of weddings on Valentine’s Day increases.  Please ignore the clichés.  The data makes an interesting discovery.  Your chances of getting hitched on this day is greater than the ever before, so you might want to take notes.

…I have everything covered, I think…

  • Typos: Your guests are critics in disguise.  Every period, comma and misspelled word is a reflection of the kind of ceremony your guests will expect.
  • Forget to sign your name? It’s not just your John Hancock that people will expect to see.  Your name also implies personality and that should echo out naturally.  Your signature just like your personality is a unique representation of who you are.
  • Quantity: This is a simple equation to figure out.  All it takes is knowledge of basic arithmetic and knowing who your B.F.F is.  This bit of honesty will determine your guest list.
  • Email: No matter how savvy you may think you are behind a keyboard and a computer screen a wedding e-invite is no excuse.  Your wedding is an important gala and your guests should see it as that.
  • Timeline – save the date – the right date.  Always remember to double and triple check the information you provide your printer.  You can never be too safe.
  • Formal or traditional – Choose your words wisely.  A wedding is a formal occasion.  Getting married in Las Vegas by a lousy Elvis impersonator is no reason to be nonchalant with your personalization.
  • A must have – Be smart about postage.  Your invitations should include the following: a wedding response card, a reception card, directions and maps.  Oh and don’t forget stamps.
  • Budget: Be decisive.  This is easier said than done, right? A budget is easy to abide by.  It’s just a matter of knowing how much you can spend – not how much you want to splurge.
  • Anatomy – What should your wedding invitation look like?
    • Hosts – traditionally meant to identify the bride’s parents or whoever pays for the wedding
    • Request – the official invite: request the honour of your presence
    • Bride and groom line – who is getting married?
    • Date and time – spell it out – always start with the day of the ceremony
    • Location
    • Closing – your invitation should contain no such thing – each word should be precise and should answer the following: who, what, when, where, why and how.
  • Wrong font – We have given you the tools to be a better judge of character – literally.  Choosing the right type will help establish the look of your wedding.  It all starts with the invitation.

For once I’m actually looking forward to Valentine’s Day, because I’ve been seeing the most amazing woman for a couple of months now! I’m not ready to contemplate weddings or anything, but I definitely think I’m going to give her a personalized card on that day. I’m going to write how I really feel, because it’s so much easier to express it that way for me, and then she can keep the card and read it again whenever she misses me or wants to think about me. Lots of pressure on me to write the perfect message!

Congratulations, Jeff! I too recently started seeing somebody, so hopefully both of us will have a great Valentine’s Day with our significant others!

I don’t know anybody getting married this Valentine’s Day, but I do have a couple of friends who are probably close to getting engaged, so I would be surprised if I don’t hear at least one engagement announced pretty soon. I’m already looking at personalized cards I can send as a congratulations, though I won’t order any until I know who if anybody I will need to personalize them for. Definitely looking forward to it!

Valentine’s Day is a great time to think about weddings! I’ve never been to a wedding on Valentine’s Day, but it sounds like a very romantic idea. Even aside from talking about wedding announcements and things like that, it’s a great opportunity to give out personalized cards to people who make a great difference in your life. And not just your boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, or whatever (although you should show them plenty of love too!). Remember back in grade school when you’d give little Valentine cards to everybody in your class? That was cool because you got to show classmates how much you appreciated them. Sure, you might have had to give a Valentine’s card to the people you didn’t like too much as well, but it was worth it to give that little personalized note to all your friends and the classmates you liked, right? I think adapting that to the workplace, college classroom, or whatever would be a great idea too!

It’s definitely important for your wedding invitations to contain return postage! I once had that happen where one of my friends sent out her wedding invitations and forgot to include return postage. Fortunately they got lots of responses back anyway, but I think a couple of people didn’t mail theirs back because of it. Talk about a snafu!

I’m not about to get married anytime soon, I think. I do have someone, but he and I aren’t ready to take that step… yet. If we did though, I think it would be great to schedule the wedding on Valentine’s Day. Although I think it’s kind of silly to have the holiday most closely associated with romance in the late winter, I have to say. Spring or summer would have been better.

It’s definitely not too early to be thinking about Valentine’s Day! Whether you’ve got a special someone to spend the day with or not, it’s coming up soon so you’d better think about what your plans are going to be. I actually do know someone whose wedding was on Valentine’s Day, which I think is a little cheesy but also very romantic. You can really have a lot of fun with that kind of thing, and they sure did! The personalized wedding invitations were so covered with hearts and flowers that it seemed like the bride and groom were asking everyone to be their Valentines. It was so over-the-top cute it actually made me laugh out loud at it!

I haven’t got any special plans for Valentine’s Day (although there’s still a couple of weeks, so you never know), but I can see it being a good day for weddings. It’s nicely separated from the major holidays, and if nothing else it will make your anniversary easier to remember! The only downside is that it’s on a Thursday this year, which might be an inconvenient time to have a wedding, especially if any family or friends have to travel a fair distance to attend.

If you’re going to get married on Valentine’s Day though, you pretty much have to play that up. That means having your personalized wedding invitations and your personalized napkins and guest towels all play into the theme, so lots of reds, pinks, and whites, so many hearts and cupids and such that nobody can turn around without seeing them everywhere at the reception. Luckily, guess who has all of that stuff to help you plan out the perfect wedding? Yep, this site right here.
