Eco Friendly Stationery Softens Your Paw Print

Eco friendly stationery is becoming more and more popular with everyone and everything going green. Eco friendly stationery can be stylish and does not have to have that old, used-up feeling. Since it is made from recycled paper, eco friendly stationery has a palate of beautiful colors and textures that make its paper unique from all others. It’s really representative of autumn leaves, a collaboration of earthy tones set upon a paler muddy hue like mauve or beige. The grainy appearance of the paper is organic in itself and really resembled the inside sparkling detail of a sliced pear.

As far as recycled paper goes, paper made from other paper is your safest and cheapest bet. Paper is made by a process known as PCF which means Process Chlorine Free, which uses no chlorine.

The paper is thicker, and made from more time and involvement than the process of making regular and wasteful non eco friendly paper. First old recycled paper is blended together with a little bit of water in a basic household blender. Then the pulp needs to be pressed onto a rice rack and laid to dry in the sun for at least twenty-four hours. Pressing the pulp together helps the water to drain and reinforces the bonds made by the individual paper pieces. These bonds are critical to making a sheet.

Some recycled paper can be more expensive, depending on how it is done and the company. The price depends on the process and sources that are used. Be sure to do homework so that you find exactly what you are looking for and do not end up disappointed or upset. It is also important to remember that some of the most eco friendly papers are more expensive because they have to go through more processes instead of the careless mauling of forest trees. Sometimes a higher cost is the price we must pay to help save our environment.

For those looking to reduce their environmental foot print, recycled letters, stationery, office paper and envelopes are made and sold for alternative greeting card options. Even for those who are just looking for alternative ways to save trees and paper, using recycled paper is a step in the right direction.

And even if you don’t use stationery for sending letters to your friends and family, perhaps the inspiring sight of recycled paper will help push you in the right direction.

Finding Eco Friendly Stationery

Using beautiful stationery to express your sentiments to friends and loved ones is a great way to convey your thoughts in a meaningful and special manner. You might think twice, however, if you’re environmentally conscious and want to save the environment. This is why you need to investigate the possibilities of eco friendly stationery. When you use eco friendly stationery, you are letting everyone know that you’re doing your part to be kind to the environment, but are also sending out some very classy notes.

It’s easy to find environmentally friendly stationery if you know where to look. The next time you go to your favorite stationery store, you should ask the sales associate if any of their paper is made from recycled goods. You might be surprised and pleased to discover that they have an entire section of stationery that’s environmentally conscious that you previously may have overlooked.

You can also find environmentally friendly stationery by shopping online. Many online stores specifically market this kind of stationery because it’s in demand; people are becoming more and more aware of environmental issues, and all want to do their part to help cut down on unnecessary waste products. You can easily buy stationery online that can be shipped right to your front door in less than 24 hours.

Some people might think that environmentally conscious stationery is more drab and boring than other sorts of stationery that doesn’t make use of recycled goods. This is simply not the case. You can buy stationery that is made from recycled products that is just as charming and attractive as other stationery. It is even available in a wide array of colors and styles, so no one will know that it’s eco friendly just by looking at it.

Don’t hesitate to have fun when you’re picking out what kind of eco friendly notes you would like to purchase. You could have a great time if you’re going to customize your own personalized note cards. Pick out one of your favorite colors for the card stock, and pair it with a fun font. You could even put your name on these cards in a brilliant color when you happen to choose a lighter color for the cards for a dramatic effect.

What is Greener, Email or Eco Friendly Stationery?

It’s easy to fall into the trap of “out of sight, out of mind.” This is especially true of the environment, and is part of the reason why we have the problems on hand that we do today. Just because you cannot see a pollutant does not mean it’s there, and just because you cannot see resources being used does not mean you are not using them. This is important to remember when green advocates remind you to avoid printing something out in order to save the environment. This helpful tip at the end of emails is nice, but it doesn’t mean it’s true. Buying and using eco friendly stationery can be just as friendly as sending out an email. Both use resources, but one is just more visible.

An eco friendly stationery usually uses recycled materials to make up the paper, but that does not mean it is totally without waste. Whenever something is manufactured, there is bound to be waste. At the same time, any email sent also creates waste. The powered-up computer and all the servers and wires used around the world to help deliver the message surely take up energy, which often relies on coal to be created. This is definitely not earth-friendly.

Putting eco friendly stationery in the post shouldn’t be considered wasteful – both emailing and writing letters create waste. The important thing is to be mindful of the waste you create and to minimize it whenever possible. This means shutting down your computer when it is not in use, avoiding the printer when you can and reusing scrap paper. These are obvious steps, but once you start thinking about your waste and how to avoid it, you can start making other changes in your life.

It is impossible to be 100 percent green. As humans and animals, we are inefficient and use up energy and resources when we do not need to. Don’t be suckered into simplistic arguments that some might make, like email is better than paper mail. These arguments miss the point of the whole issue. It is not about choosing one form of communication over the other, or one type of product over the other. It is thinking about which of these products or energy-sappers we can reduce or eliminate from our lives. And that thinking is indeed the greenest move anyone can make. Trust us, the earth will thank you later for it.

How Friendly is Your Eco Friendly Stationary

Going green is not just a goal these days – it can seem like a mandate. With threats of global warming everywhere we turn, it seems like everyone is under pressure to reduce their global footprint. While finding the perfect eco friendly stationary can seem like a small step, it’s still a great way to start thinking about the environment in every purchase you make.

There are a few key things to think about when looking for the best eco friendly stationary. The obvious first step is to find a recycled paper for your note cards and envelopes. There are many varieties of recycled paper, and they vary from paper with a bit of recycled fibers to 100% post consumer waste papers.

Many papers use virgin fiber, which is not ideal when looking for eco friendly stationary. Virgin fibers mean that the paper uses only fibers that have never been used by a manufacturer. A tree that was felled was then put directly to use in order to create the paper you use. This is wasteful, but it does create a paper with a very smooth and strong surface.

Many recycled papers contain a certain percentage of post-consumer waste. This means that a certain percentage of the fibers used to create the paper come from items that were procured from a recycling program. Those fibers were saved from a landfill, allowing you to benefit by creating beautiful writing paper. There are also some papers that contain pre-consumer waste. This means that fibers used to create paper products were recycled before being used. They were either rejected as flawed items and then recycled or they were scraps left over from manufacturing.

There are also a lot of great paper products on the market that don’t use tree fibers, which take much longer to grow and have a bigger environmental impact when logged. Bamboo, hemp, cotton and flax straw papers are all great choices for easily sourced and grown fibers for paper.

Chlorine is another environmental consideration when looking for earth friendly note cards. Chlorine has been found to have adverse effects on humans and animals alike, with negative effects being noted in animals’ reproductive systems and immune systems. Totally chlorine free paper is where the virgin fibers are not bleached at all, or are not bleached with chlorine or its derivatives. This is a great environmental choice. There are also processed chlorine free papers and elemental chlorine free papers. Processed chlorine free papers use recycled content which is unbleached or bleached without chlorine. Elemental chlorine free papers use a chlorine derivative, which is less harmful than chlorine itself but is still a bad choice for the environment.

International Paper Sees Paper as a Renewable Resource and Poor Electronic Waste Recycling Rates

“Pixels vs. Paper” shows that electronic waste a much larger issue than paper recycling

In late June, International Paper released a brochure that puts the debate between renewable and nonrenewable resources in a whole new light.

The paper giant’s new brochure, “Pixels vs. Paper,” draws interesting comparisons between the paper recycling process and electronic waste recycling. Despite all of the advances in electronic communications, producing and using paper actually proves to be more of a renewable resource than the trend away from paper and toward electronics.

Trees – a renewable resource supported by the paper products industry

When people consider a paper company like International Paper, they might think of how many trees fall to produce all of that product. The truth is, according to the brochure, “Every day the paper and forest products  industry plants more than three times the number of trees than are harvested….”

It looks like paper is more of a sustainable, renewable resource than we thought.

Paper vs. Computers: Energy consumption

It might sound a little obvious, but using electronics consumes energy and using paper doesn’t. International Paper dug a little deeper Continue reading ‘International Paper Sees Paper as a Renewable Resource and Poor Electronic Waste Recycling Rates’ »

Emily's 2nd Birthday

Emily Enters the Terrific 2’s

My daughter Emily just celebrated her second birthday – I can hardly believe it! Who knew children’s birthdays were such an event? With all of the choices we had to make, it was a bit daunting, but there was one thing for sure that I felt strongly about: we had to have personalized invitations, thank you notes and napkins. Sure, it takes extra time, but it is so well worth it. Emily’s personalized invitations set the tone for the event. Matching personalized napkins helped establish the ambience at the party. And coordinating personalized thank you notes concluded Emily’s celebration with personal expressions of her gratitude.

I guess you could say we went with a “sweet treats” theme, choosing lollipop motif invitations, napkins and thank you notes and carrying those colors through in the decorations and, of course, her cupcakes. Continue reading ‘Emily’s 2nd Birthday’ »
