National Poetry Month

writing with personalized stationery“Shall I compare thee to a summer day, though art more lovely and more temperate.” “To bend with apples mess’d cottage-trees.” A stately pleasure-dome decree:  Where alph, the sacred river, ran through caverns measureless to man down to a sunless see.” These are a few stolen verses from a few of “the world’s most popular poems.” Since April is National Poetry Month what better way to pay homage to the world’s most beloved treasures than writing and reading them aloud, alone or before a crowd, either you or your kids? Have you got Family to do Lists, List Sheet notepads, Office Tablets,  Family Pride Lists, Petite notepad Squares, My Pads or any of our personalized notepads or personalized stationery. You know something to write down the most meaningful line or lines so you can take them with you, so they can remain with you.

The wonderful gift of  language is one of those things that takes a little work, a bit of nurturing but with a bit of talent while sowing the right seeds it often blossoms into something quite unexpected, something that often takes the avid reader, writer or  unexpected audience by surprise. Through our personalized stationery cards, notes, notepads and memos we challenge you to celebrate your life and those around you. The more time you spend in giving relationships the best that you can the more they should return to you. Considering April is National Poetry Month challenge yourself to see how poet’s thoughts, works and phrases can refresh your perspective, change your attitude, expand your horizons and still help improve relationships with the most important people in your lives. If poetry is indeed “music written for the human voice” it would not only be our loss but yours if you did not raise your cards, notes or notepads to let your voice sing.

The Significance of the Monogram

Monograms throughout History

Although monograms spiked in popularity most notably in the Victorian era, monograms and monogram stationery were commonly used during the period of our nation’s naissance and steadily thereafter.  One would rightly assume that our forefathers took pride in their monograms; George Washington’s, for instance, was emblazoned onto his gold encrusted china.Traditional monogram note

In the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, soldiers often had their monograms emblazoned onto their buttons to signify ownership of clothing.  Monograms were also used on personal effects and, of course, monogram stationery.

During the Victorian era (1837 – 1901), personal monograms were very in vogue, a European craze that crossed the pond to pervade American culture.  Every sophisticated gentleman corresponded on his own personalized monogram stationery, and every respectable lady displayed dainty monograms on embroidered linens and embossed stationery.  The monogram was seen not only as a status symbol but also as an illustration of personality.

Modern Day Monogramming

Since then, personalized monograms have ebbed and flowed with fashion and trend.  Continue reading ‘The Significance of the Monogram’ »

Hi this is Samara O’Shea. I’ve written two books proclaiming my love of writing. If I told you that you had the power to make someone’s day, would you do it? I’m telling you: You have that power. There is a very simple act that takes a little bit of time and the best of intentions, and it’s guaranteed to put a smile on the recipient’s face. Write a letter! I kid you not. Even in today’s world of fast food and faster communication, a letter is still worth its weight in gold. It is proof positive that someone cares about you enough to sit down (rather than text on the go) and thoughtfully say thank you, I miss you, I love you, get well, or let’s get together. Imagine receiving a handwritten letter amidst all the junk mail and bills that usually clutter your mailbox. It’s a breath of fresh air. I count it among life’s greatest pleasures-right next to an afternoon at the spa.    Continue reading ‘National Card and Letter Writing Month Essay Writing Contest at the Giftsin24 Blog’ »
