I completely agree with the author’s view on writing a personalized hand written sympathy message. It truly shows your sympathy.

I agree with the other comments. If one is gong to send a sympathy note … write it out on one’s stationery … a purchased “greeting card” is trite.

Greeting cards are so “yesterday.” And emailing about an emotional issue is so superficial. Keep the personalized stationery by your desk (and your “Forever” stamps) and send a note where you express yourself to your friend. That isn’t just the polite thing to do, it’s what’s expected of a friend.

To me there is always something wrong with buying a greeting card that has a “sympathy” verse on it. Condolences and expressions of sympathy should be written on stationery in full sentences.
