2010-02-15 09:36:35  By Geoffrey Donzek Name of this item Please note that these gift enclosures are named "Roman" for a reason -- typefaces that feature small serifs on the tips of their letters are called Roman typefaces because this is how the Romans carved their letters into their stone (usually marble) monuments, public buildings, etc. Typefaces that are similar to the Roman typefaces, but do not have serifs on the letter "tips, are named "sans serif" typefaces -- Helvetica is the most famous of these. As an example, most websites use the "sans serif" lettering for almost all of their text, because it is (supposedly) more easy to read, but mainly because Helvetica typefaces is available in the font-library of all PC's -- so Helvetica is used for convenience, rather than for aesthetic reasons.
